It’s another day. Another post. And all that intro junk. Anyway, I’m here to talk about something that just hit me recently. The origin of the current train of thought is in the video below.
Now I could go on a rant about the advantages of real distortion kits and pedals over digitally synthesized ones (Like AxlPif will, once he sees the video), but I don’t own either so I can’t judge.
The sounds are what matter now. I’m sure some of you guys who watch the video might not really see the big deal but hear me out. The kind of distortion that a guitarist uses is enough to switch a band from one genre to another. Yes. An alternative rock song can be turned to a post-grunge or alternative metal song. And all the band needs to do is change the effects used on the guitar’s sound.
Now that I think about it, why some bands might actually sound sucky, besides them actually sucking (iJoke), is that the guitar effects are either too harsh or too mellow for the tone and atmosphere they want to create. I think the effects kits a band uses, whether they be digital or analogue, should not be picked without careful consideration. Sure money is tight and these kits aren’t cheap. Even if they were, having them shipped won’t be. I say this because every guitarist I know personally, bought their kits and pedals from the United States. I don’t know about other African countries, but in Nigeria, where there aren’t many bands, they don’t sell these things in the average music store. VERY LOW DEMAND. Economics. Yeah, I know it sucks.
Although, one advantage to using one app, like the one in the video, is that a band can afford to experiment with all sorts of sounds without having to buy the different effects kits to do so….I think. And yeah, I think it’s cool for bands to perform experiments with their sound now and then. They don’t have to completely change how their style of play to keep things fresh. If anything, that’s kinda… well, I dunno. Okay, I almost went off track.
I guess the moral of the story is “FIND A WAY TO MASTER YOUR SOUND, EFFECTS WISE. APPS MAKE THINGS EASIER, MAYBE.”……….?
Okay, I’m out. Peace.
